Lipid (Cholesterol) Management Hypertension Management Program

Cholesterol Modification Program
Lipid Clinic

Abnormal cholesterol levels are linked to heart disease. Research now concludes that high LDL cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol levels increase the risk of Heart Attack. However, new research is also showing that improvement in cholesterol levels may not only slow the progress of coronary heart disease, but can reverse it. Aggressive cholesterol reduction has also led to a decrease in the number of clinical events.

Our Cholesterol Modification Program was established in order to monitor patients who have abnormalalities in their blood lipids and set a regimented program to bring them to a low risk range. In operation since 1985, our program currently manages approximately 5000 patients under the medical direction of Dr Alan Brown. Dr. Brown is a board certified cardiologist with Midwest Heart Specialists and has special interest and experience in the area of cholesterol research.

The Cholesterol Modification Program includes:

  • a review of medical and family history with screening for secondary causes of high cholesterol.
  • an explanation of lipid profile results and optional goals of therapy.
  • education on low fat/high fiber eating and lipid medication if necessary.
  • long term monitoring of cholesterol levels and relevant therapy (such as diet, exercise, weight loss, and effects of lipid medication).
  • progress reports to the patient's family physician and primary cardiologist.
